Wow. My first reaction to this non-profit. Promising Pages is a young organization founded by Kristina Cruise. Dropping off some donations at Crisis Assistance one day Kristina observed the long line at the restore. In the line she saw a mother with her young child waiting patiently. Why not give these children something easy and productive to do while waiting? I can imagine her thought process... Her mission is brilliant and so well thought out. Reading for young children is trying to be highly stressed these days, and by giving children a chance to read on their own time at their own will, is probably one of the best ideas I have come across since I have been old enough to appreciate readings values. And on top of that... when a worm named Erm or Erma walks up to you with a wrapped present who wouldn't want to be excited to read your new present?!
During this week, the team prepped books, organized, separated, wrapped, and sorted hundreds and hundreds of books. I saw so many books I grew up with it was like being back in my middle school library all over again! The care that is taken to every book, old or new, was quite shocking considering the amount of books so many volunteers process. New books are wiped down with natural sanitizer, stamped with the Promising Pages logo, and wrapped in the signature Promising pages method. I hope to see more and more of this up and coming non-profit!
