So far, all of our volunteering experiences have been fun, enjoyable, not very tedious, and rewarding in some way. Crisis Assistance Ministry was not the most exciting volunteer experience but it was a good test to show how much one truly wants to help people. 9 am to 2 am Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday consisted of sorting mens, womens, and childrens clothing, hanging them on their designated rack, sorting through donated goods from underwear to random electronics, or inspecting the quality of donated clothes and folding them. As you can see these tasks are not the most enjoyable in the world but it not only provided our team with more close bonding but it also gave us a feel of not all volunteer work is glamorous and fun. When we were done each day we could see the amount of bins of clothing we folded, sorted, hung up, and went through. I was dreaming of clothes by Wednesday. Then after seeing a family actually shopping through the Free Store I knew all of the tedious work we did was well worth it when I saw a little boy pick up a sand shovel and smile at his mom. The mission of Crisis Assistance Ministry is to provide assistance to people and families who struggle to financially support themselves. Crisis has a free store where people can go once a month and are able to choose 15 items per person within an hour of shopping. All at no cost. Crisis also helps with housing and financial services to help people in need get back on their feet.
